Marit Akintewe
Welcome to the Yoga with Marit website. Here I am combining some offerings for the community, in free downloadable classes & charitable giving as core to my ethos, with high quality yoga teaching.
About Marit – I started out studying martial arts, reiki and chi kung in my 20s and did my first yoga class in Rishikesh with Swami Vivekananda in 2000.
Between 2000 and 2008 I studied for several months of the year with Swami Vivekananda in a ‘Yoga University’ style ashram/ school, completing the intensive Hatha Yoga and Kundalini Programs up to month 26. This was a time of deep exploration of Yoga postures, breath work, subtle body (chakra and kundalini practices), yoga philosophy, cleansing practices and much more. The first 3 months was the equivalent of a 500 hour teacher training. I feel very lucky to have been able to have such a full foundation in Yoga.
In 2007- 2010 I started to move towards a meditation journey when I met Sahajananda of Hridaya Yoga, a Self Enquiry Teacher. I joined around fifteen 10 day retreats (silent retreats with strict regulations of austerities) with Sahajananda over this period and performed many solitary retreats from between 2 day to 3 months.
Since 2010 I have continued to learn in many different ways, but stayed mostly in Scotland as I met my partner and we started a family. I am a strong believer in the importance of keeping studying, practicing and learning so have undertaken several courses with the Oxford University Hindu Society online studies and many other avenues.
I have been teaching Yoga full time since 2003 (I was an accountant before), running classes, workshops, and teacher training courses in the times I was not studying or retreating. In 2010 I joined 2 other teachers and set up Seasonal Yoga, which is a yoga teacher training school which combines the information from Traditional Chinese Medicine and Yoga to create a wonderfully accessible form of practice which supports health and wellbeing.
My specialisms are working with the breath, meditation, Yoga philosophy and mental wellbeing. I run Seasonal Yoga Edinburgh, Seasonal Yoga Teacher training 200 and 500 hours, Advanced philosophy and Meditation, Seasonal Yin, and more.
I am a mum of 2, and live and teach in Edinburgh with my family. My hope is to convert the amazing teachings from the Yoga tradition and help make them accessible and relevant for our day to day lives.
Thank you,
Marit
